Life Coaching
“A coach is someone who sees beyond your limits and guides you to greatness.”
-Michael Jordan
What Is Life Coaching?
Life Coaching is a personal growth strategy that provides clients with the tools, resources, guidance, support, motivation, accountability, inspiration, and encouragement they need to achieve their goals and level up their lives. The client and coach work together to improve the life of the client through thought-provoking exploration, experimentation, creative thought, goal setting, self-reflection, celebration, and so much more.
Each coaching journey is tailored to the client’s needs and life. There are no scripts here. With the help of the latest neuroscience research, each one-hour coaching session is meant to be an effective and supportive tool for the client as they achieve their goals. Life Coaching is not meant to be a permanent staple in a client’s life. Once the client’s goals have been achieved, it is time for the client-coach relationship to end.
Neuroscience & Life Coaching
Here at Hummingbird Nation Wellness, I love brains. Every thought, every action, and every emotion you feel is impacted by the inner workings of your brain. This is why neuroscience and psychology play a big role in my Life Coaching practice. Here are a few amazing brain-based approaches I like to use at Hummingbird Nation.
Neuroplasticity:
The brain is malleable, which means it has the ability to change at any age. Sometimes this is done by growing new neural connections or strengthening existing ones. Sometimes this is done by speeding up the firing potential of neurons, via myelination of the axons. And sometimes the brain can change by growing completely new neurons, a process called neurogenesis. But what is probably the most exciting thing about neuroplasticity is that your thoughts and behaviours have the power to change your brain.
Positive Psychology:
Positive Psychology is the psychological study of happiness, well-being, and personal growth. It looks at the emotions, behaviours, and thoughts that are desired by all of us, at our very core, and identifies how we can reach such heights. Positive Psychology combines theories such as Abe Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, Carl Roger’s Fully Functioning Person, Mihalyi Csikszentmihali’s Flow, and Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness. Its founder, Martin Seligman, has also conducted years of research on happiness. Something that makes Positive Psychology so wonderfully unique is its connection to Buddhism and spirituality, incorporating the concept of a soul into scientific research.
Behavioural Psychology:
Behavioural Psychology is how habits and thought patters are established in our brain, called the Habit Loop. It looks at how our environments and external stimuli shape what we do, how we act, and how we learn. It boils down to, “rewards are our friends”.
Behavioural Economics:
Behavioural Economics looks at how we decide to spend our money and our time. Most importantly, it looks at how much our decision-making process is impacted by unconscious cues and rationale. Behavioural Economics looks at how our emotions, thoughts, environment, and social influences and how they impact our behaviour.
Other Health & Wellness Research:
Here at Hummingbird Nation, I take a holistic approach to your health and happiness. Research in stress, willpower, compassion, exercise, and sleep are all vital for a happy- healthy life and all utilized at Hummingbird Nation.
Neuropsychoidiology:
Neuropsychoidiology is a recent term coined by Behavioural Neuroscientist Mandy Wintink, that describes the practice of studying one’s self. It utilizes a person’s intrinsic power and intuition to facilitate self-awareness, self-exploration, and self-experimentation. In Neuropsychodiology you are the scientist, helping you identify who you are at your core. This clarity provides you with the insight and power to take control of your brain and fuels your ability to create the happy and fulfilled life you desire.
